Chat Room Directions

Chats take place at Google Talk (Windows XP or later, download required). Mac users can log on to their Google account and launch the Google Talk Gadget without any download necessary. After earlier severe problems with AOL Messenger and extensive research, we found Google Talk the most feasible free chat option. A note of caution: Lately, Google Talk has its glitches too; if you get bumped, log out and log on again and IM Irene so that she can add you again to the chat.

Participants will need to have a Google and/or G-mail account. You may still use your regular e-mail address for the chat if you have a Google account. Once you have established this, please e-mail Irene so that she can add your name to her list. At the time of the chat, please make sure you are logged on. Then wait for Irene to add you to the "Group Talk." Irene will be happy to have a trial chat with you.

Note for Mac users: The original instructions called for downloading the Google Talk Gadget from the the Google Talk set-up page, but this now works only in Microsoft Windows. I found the above Google Talk Gadget link on Wikipedia (scroll down in the right-hand box).
