The North Gate

The North Gate has been reconstructed. Below right, in the lower right-hand corner, a sample illustration is given showing how the walls were originally painted over. Actually, the lines are painted in a dark red.

grazing horses outside gate Horses grazing just outside the gate. Two horse units have been documented for Castra Biriciana: The Ala I Hispanorum Auriana, and the Cohors IX Batavorum equitata milliaria exploratorum.

One might imagine that this was place where their horses grazed…
